Shelter Equity is a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to dismantling the barriers that keep families trapped in cycles of poverty. Through a holistic approach centered on safe housing, clean water, and bicycle mobility, we help create long-term stability that supports better health, education, work, and opportunity.

32 Years of Serving Families
More than 32 years ago, Shelter Equity began as Community Housing Partnership (CHP), serving families in Middle Tennessee through local housing and community development efforts focused on creating long-term stability for vulnerable individuals and families. What started as a grassroots commitment to helping neighbors in need has grown into an organization that has served more than 16,000 individuals through over 5,300 housing and infrastructure projects. Over the years, Shelter Equity has developed and preserved affordable housing ranging from single-family homes to multifamily communities, including The Lofts, while maintaining a long-term affordable housing portfolio throughout Middle Tennessee. In partnership with other local organizations, our work has also included collaborating on group homes for adults with disabilities, supporting housing programs for women transitioning from prison, partnering on recovery housing initiatives for individuals overcoming addiction, and providing emergency home repair assistance through partnerships including United Way of Greater Nashville and Tennessee Housing Development Agency.
