Our Method
Shelter Equity is a trusted partner with more than three decades of global nonprofit experience. To date, your generosity has helped support more than 16,000 people and contributed to over 5,200 completed housing and infrastructure projects. And we’re only just getting started.

Every dollar should work hard and go far. Because our overhead is fully covered, 100% of every public donation directly supports housing and infrastructure projects.
While costs vary by location, an average of $5,000 contributes to sponsoring a home and includes ongoing program support to ensure long-term success.
These homes are built to last, designed with durable materials to withstand local conditions and provide safety, comfort, and stability for the families who live in them for years to come.

How Partnership Becomes Impact
We believe that safe housing, clean water, and mobility form the essential foundation every family needs to thrive. While our holistic approach is the blueprint, we partner exclusively with trusted, community-led organizations who know how to best implement these tools within their own neighborhoods.
Each Shelter Equity partner has deep roots and a long history in their service area, ensuring that our work is both culturally relevant and locally managed for long-term success.
The process begins when potential partners apply for a build grant through our website. If the project and organization are strong mission matches, we travel to visit these new partners in person to cultivate understanding and ensure a successful partnership.

Careful Vetting Process and Side-by-Side Project Oversight
We carefully vet every partner for dependability, efficiency, and financial transparency, ensuring that every gift is invested wisely. Because our overhead is already covered, we can focus entirely on stewardship and impact.
Once a project begins, we maintain a side-by-side partnership, either in-country or remotely, through oversight and progress monitoring. While we stay directly involved in the construction process to ensure safety and quality, we honor the expertise and leadership of our local partners.
These partners take the lead in vetting the families who participate in the program, ensuring that land tenure is secure and that families are actively involved in building their own future.

Measured Impact and Long-Term Follow-Up
When homes are completed, we return to inspect the project, confirm quality, and measure how neighbors are using these new tools to move toward self-reliance.
We also conduct long-term follow-up surveys to assess success and gather feedback directly from the community. We use these insights to refine our process and increase efficiency.
This model blends radical transparency with respectful collaboration, allowing us to fuel the potential of local organizations as they transform their own communities.
